- Do you need daily, weekly, monthly reports? Of what kinds of information? Yes. All the information you can obtain from the strip charts. Also the ability to create a graphs (report) based on the type date/time you specify up to the last data point of any of the things you are gathering info on (utilization, errors and so forth). Can we gather LAN MIB II and mini RMON information from routers and switches today using InterMapper? (Not sure what OID's are being used in the strip charts).
- Do you want reports of outages, traffic trends, utilization? Yes. Outages would be a great one (daily, weekly, monthy). Like a reliability report. Also, a reachability and latency report would be nice (using ping responses and ping latency info). - Do you care how the data is saved? Would text files suffice? Is an SQL database required? I think some sort of SQL database would be great. - If the data were saved in a SQL database, would you want direct access to the DBMS? Yes. Maybe we could also use this to pull reports on the number of devices and the names/ip/interfaces/IOS/etc of all the monitored devices. We can use this when we are asked for a list of all the devices we are monitoring and also to create an inventory report of all hardware. - How would you use this data? To help improve service? To look for trouble spots? To convince your boss you're doing a good job? :-) All the above. Also for hardware inventory and type of interfaces being used (10/100/1000MB, T1,T3,BRI,ETC). While we are at it, how about a syslog and trap server where at least we can import vendor MIBS easily for interpretation of traps. A trap browser would be great that categorizes the type of traps coming in (coldStart, LinkUp/Down, PowerSupply failure, Etc). Thanks for the opportunity to give feedback on features we would like to see in InterMapper. -John Marino --- "Richard E.
