We had a power outage last week and there were issues about which servers
went down when and then which ones came up when and then the same question
about up/down/reboot times because some services didn't come back after
everyone thought the servers were rebooted......... etc.

Apparently, for Windows boxes - the "reboot time" isn't what it appears to
be.

While investigating one server the reboot time reported by IM was 0720 hrs.
However, the event logs on the server indicated no reboot anywhere near that
time.
But the event logs did show that the SNMP service was turned on almost
exactly at that time.

So - the reboot time has a bad name. It should read - when SNMP was turned
on time.

Can this be done differently?

I realize that generally SNMP going up or down "normally" means the server
did to - but not always.

Can IM do two tests? If SNMP is not avail perhaps a ping to verify that yes
indeed the server went down?
