There's an intermediate step first; you may have noticed that xev, besides giving you the "keycode", for your average key it also gives a "keysym" (key symbol). It is the keysym which X knows about. However, for the "fancy" keys, they generally don't have a keysym, so you have to map them to a symbol which X knows about. This is done with the xmodmap program. (man xmodmap) For example, in my own .xmodmaprc file, I've set up various "fancy" keys to be mapped to F13 onwards (since I already have F1-F12, so F13 onwards is free to be mapped to): ! Back keycode 234 = F13 ! Forward keycode 233 = F14 ! Stop keycode 232 = F15 ! Mail keycode 236 = F16 ! Search keycode 229 = F17 and so on. For you, it will depend on what particular keycodes your fancy keys are. Then in your bindings file, you would refer to F13, F14 and so on. You could map them to something other than the spare function keys, it's up to you.
