Let me also add the thanks and praise I've been repeating on #ion. Ion3 is still is by far the most comfortable place for me to be in, window system wise. Even the people are nice and helpful.. and full of personality. I think ion3 is quite "old" and would be fine moved to a stable state. It isn't the end of it but a step forward. I also fear the project being eventually left to rot, of course. But I doubt that's going to happen. Unless there's some ui revolution ahead :) -- I appear to be temporarily using gmail's horrible interface. I apologise for any failure in my part in trying to make it do the right thing with post formatting.
