I'm not sure whether galeon supports type-ahead but personally I really prefer the CTRL-F way of searching because while using Moz I somehow managed to frequently trigger the type-ahead by accident. Btw the "transient overlap"- problem is not limited to browsers, I've expirienced it with acrobat reader, Pan and other apps, too. Generally I can usually get around it somehow but it's a bit annoying cuz it tends to interrupt my "thinking process" on whatever I was doing at that time. :-(
