[indeed, I've become a lurker here. One who rarely even finds time to read the 
posts. How's stuff at your end ?]

...back to the thread:

I was on a 2 year iPhone cycle here. I renewed a gen 1. iPhone after 18 months 
with a 3GS and got the gen 1 unlocked after a further 6 months. The 3GS can be 
unlocked in 4 months. That's at least how t-mobile operates here in DE. In the 
meantime I bought an unlocked 4 and will probably sell the 3GS once its 
unlocked in Summer.
