IT's also great for hiking and running as well as swimming and cross country 
skiing ; you can select the activity you're doing and it affects the 
calculations somehow.

I left it on cycle once and went on a hike and the recorded distance was much 
less than the actual distance; so it's more sensitive or something depending on 
mode.
