Does anything jump out in the per-app breakdown of what is using up storage space? I think it is sorted by space used so the entries at the top may be good candidates. My phone for example has around 2GB used by Transmit that I've been told can't be cleared out unless I delete and re-install the app. I'm too lazy to try that. You also said that clearing stuff off just leads to it filling back up. What are you clearing? Does the used space drop after that before it raises again?
