Sanjay,

Thanks for the details, there are several things wrong:
1) The alert destination and policy did not get set.
There are several of the IPMI LAN settings that have to be configured
locally (not while actually using the IPMI LAN :-). So, try running
this locally:
   "pefconfig -e -I 10.0.100.218 -S 255.255.0.0 -G 10.0.0.2 -A
10.0.0.73"
This will configure the PEF Alert destination and enable the Policy.

2) You have a PEF table entry for Power Redundancy Lost, but not
specifically for Power Unit on/off. This should still cause a PEF alert
though, if you have two power supplies. Check the SEL to afterward to
see if a Power Redundancy Lost event occurred or not.

3) Your "Auth Type Enables" parameter looks wrong (disabled) for all but
channel 3. Running pefconfig locally, as above, will fix this.

4) The default gateway MAC is empty, so no Alerts can get out.
The -G parameter from step one above will allow pefconfig to find the
gateway MAC from its IP address. It uses arping to do find the MAC, and
defaults to eth0 to do that. If you do not have eth0 configured on this
LAN, then add something like "-i eth1" to step 1 above.

That should do it. Pefconfig will find reasonable defaults for the LAN
parameters that are needed, if you run it locally.

Andy

Subject: RE: [Ipmitool-devel] HP ProLiant power off/on/reset events

Hello Andy,

I have another set of IntelS5000XAL machines. I used
"pefconfig" util to populate the PEF table entries,
but still I am unable to receive the PETraps for power
off/on events or in general trap for any IPMI events.
Though I have set the lan alert destination and the
"alert immediate" IPMI command is working and its
traps are also being received.

It seems that the PEF Alert Policy is not getting
populated.

I am using " ./pefconfig -F lan2 -N ipmi -U "" -P
"ab1234" -r -A 10.0.0.73"
command to configure PEF, and,
" ./ipmitool -I lanp -H 10.0.100.218 -U "" -P "ab1234"
-C 0 -o intelplus
event "Pwr Unit Stat" "Power off/down" assert" command
to generate an IPMI
event.

What is the correct way to configure the BMC for
sending out Lan alerts?
Am I missing someting here?

For your referenece, following is the log of
"pefconfig" and "ipmitool" commands:
