No, this is exactly NOT not what I'm saying.  Instead:

1) must implement redirect

I was only responding to point 1), and I have no firm stance on 2).

However I must say that most reasons I've seen for disabling it have been rather weak. For example this and the quoted message sum up a 'security argument':

I'll certainly agree that vendors should expose the default value in configuration, no matter what.
