I was speaking about EAS alerts. Right now I have most of my clients configured to automatically relay any serious EAS alerts such as tornado warnings and Amber Alerts. If they are not manually forwarded in a specific time period, the EAS equipment automatically sends them. If the station has been signed off, then that is one less source for these alerts. An automated EAS alert is better than none at all. > These proposed FCC requirements are simply a wrongheaded attempt to do > something to address problems caused by prior deregulation going too > far and/or having unanticipated results. To be honest, I really have no problem with things as they are regarding unattended operations. In many ways, the automated EAS equipment will do a better job than some minimally trained, minimum wage babysitter. I've seen jocks ignore or screw up some alerts that really needed to be sent immediately. My real concern with all of this is strictly the EAS part. Programming of the cookie-cutter satellite formats is not the best use of a station assignment. Though I have to say it's better than some local programming...
