I was talking to someone just the other day about that very scene in the movie. The speaker you see is actually the external speaker for the old Radio Shack/Realistic DX-160. I had one, so I recognized it immediately. All they did was stick a NASA sticker on the front of it! Another Hollywood blunder.

They show a couple of scenes in the movie where Jim Lovell's wife is listening to the transmissions from the spacecraft. It's a grey speaker, with a NASA logo on it, but it never appears to be attached to a radio. Anybody know anything about this? Did the families have access to the communications? It puzzles me every time I see it. KI4SYC Ira Elbert New, III Watkinsville, Georgia Proudly Serving You Since 1964. _______________________________________________ The NRC AM mailing list Questions?
