I was talking to someone just the other day about that very scene in the 
movie.  The speaker you see is actually the external speaker for the old Radio 
Shack/Realistic DX-160.  I had one, so I recognized it immediately.  All they 
did was stick a NASA sticker on the front of it! Another Hollywood blunder.

     Here's a question for those of you who are a lot smarter than I am...I'm 
watching Apollo 13 during the commercial breaks tonight while the ALA - LSU 
game is on. They show a couple of scenes in the movie where Jim Lovell's wife 
is listening to the transmissions from the spacecraft. It's a grey speaker, 
with a NASA logo on it, but it never appears to be attached to a radio. Anybody 
know anything about this? Did the families have access to the communications? 
It puzzles me every time I see it.
