----------------------------------------------------------- New Message on Irish Fencing Forum
----------------------------------------------------------- From: PostpaidPBH Message 15 in Discussion I'm sure you can agree it's hardly practical or financially justified for her to fly to Ireland to compete. As was pointed out by DexterSin at the outset of this thread. Siobhan received 30,000 last year from the Irish Tax payer to compete. Is is really such a chore to use some of that money to compete in the country supporting her? I'm not suggesting that she competes in every competition. Like you say, that would be a bit taxing, however what about the Open or the Nationals? (And by the way, before she moved to the US, she was concentrating on Olympic qualification, so it was hardly unreasonable that Irish competitions were not a priority -- of course, she didn't live in Ireland then either.) I think it has been about has been 4 years since Siobhan (I'm not quite sure I know she won both the foil and the sabre in the Nationals but I can't find the result on the web) has competed in Ireland. Surely she could have found some time in her busy training schedual to compete in Ireland. It not like skipping off to Ibiza to go drinking with her mates...she'd be fencing! Paul, you call on Siobhn to come and compete in Ireland, but I don't understand why you would post a request on this board (where I doubt she'll ever see it) instead of getting in touch with her personally. You never know who is going to show up at a board such as this. I think you're a case in point Siobh. But we have no right to expect [Siobhan to compete in Ireland]. See above point on tax payer's money. Also you told me once that a huge amount of the commitee's time is spent on administering these carded fencers, Siobhan included. WHAT IN GOD'S NAME IS THAT?! j00 d0 |\|07 u|\|d3rs74|\|d c0z j00r |\|07 l33t ( L1k3 D4|\| 4|\|d /\/\3 ) ----------------------------------------------------------- To stop getting this e-mail, or change how often it arrives, go to your E-mail Settings. http://groups.msn.com/IrishFencingForum/_emailsettings.msnw Need help?
