So much to reply to, so little time. Firstly, in answer to Dexter Sins comment
that this thread has reverted to fencing. I did try my best to keep it off
topic, honest! Trying to explain the group dynamics theory and also the rights
of individuals on the internet were not areas I thought relevant to the rest of
the board. However, I suppose fencing is the theme, and it generally creeps
into everything! hurray for our obsessiveness! Secondly, and this is to reply
to comments made by both Owen and Ken, no UCD do not provide the majority of
fencers in certain areas. i.e. females! you guys (I seem to see myself typing
that phrase oh-so-often) are having a great time on this board; and it does
give a good impression that at least somebody is active but I read a very sad
article last week where it mentioned not one female UCD fencer entered the Fed
Cup. How many post on here eh? (And I dont count cos a)I'm staff, b)I'm too
old, and c)I'm retired!) To me it seems you are all very preoccupied with
talking amongst yourselves and not in getting anyone else to contribute. When
they do you don't exactly respond in a very friendly manner (this is directed
at Owen by the way). Its very like "If you are not one of us, and we don't know
you, keep out!" No wonder there aren't many girls on these boards, its so
aggresive. And Owen, I didn't think using the most extreme form of
discrimination I could find as an example was a weak argument. I just didn't
want to accuse you of being a raging xenophobe (sp? ) without back-up. (You're
like th bouncer to the UCD boys-own club! if you're names not down, you're not
coming in!) Anyway, I'm going to stop now. I think I might suffer from that
common malady of hunger-induced bloody-mindedness. and in fairness, its your
boards, you keep them active, so I suppose a little territoriality is to be
expected. thank you and goodnight
