Yes by default it'll build 64-bit target.
In case you wish 32-bit you will have to call
./configure --build=ia64n-hp-hpux11
Nowadays more people use 64-bit JVM so by default it compiles 64-bit.
Actually the reason was to unify the code with the ia64-pc-linux which should
produce 64-bit code by default.
