If we use '@', won't we have to swap the order so it is table 'at' namespace?
(Or, the '@' would seem to imply that).
Between 2 and 3, if we choose 3, can't we keep more hidden from the user -- or
allowing your 'external tools' argument, we should do 2 and 3?
