15 years sounds wrong but it could be true. This project is 25 years old after all. Again, I'm not against changing things. I'm just explaining the requirements. It's highly unlikely I'm going to change my opinion on these either. To be honest, I really don't have a high opinion of the classical way that text is dumped into Logstash/Kafka/... and their variants to some Elastic/OpenSearch server completely disconnected from our data engineers. I was hoping OpenTelemetry could help out. Have a friend at Collibra, joined an OT evening in Brussels last month at the Collibra offices. But even that seems mostly geared towards sending data to OT and less about reading it back out. I haven't given up on OT though. Anyway, by all means, if you think that Apache Log4j is the answer, it's worth having a debate about it. It feels like an aweful lot of work that requires quite a bit of extra testing, compatiibility, making sure plugins don't break, and so on. I'm conflicted about simply accepting this into the codebase with 10 lines of explanation in this issue and not even a single unit or integration test.
