Follow-up info! I just created an AcroForm in Acrobat 8 Pro, by using
"Tools->Forms->TextField Tool", instead of the "Forms->Create New Form" which
launches LiveCycle Designer and creates an XFA form. I then used the
FillEnabledForm.java from the FAQ example, and bingo - no loss of user-enabled
rights after the first save. So this certainly seems to further implicate
(static) XFA forms.

So before I completely ditch PDF Forms and iText and fall on my sword in total
defeat with this project, any suggestions for the following would be most
appreciated:

o A way to convert an XFA form to an AcroForm (so that we can convert our
current 4-page static XFA form). Or:

o Advice on the best AcroForm editor - because I just tried to use the limited
editing in "Tools->Forms" in an attempt to manually re-construct an AcroForm,
and it was quite difficult to replicate all of our formatting and fields. To
give you an idea of my desperation, I'm not above purchasing an old Acrobat 7 or
6 or whatever - I just need find a way to pre-fill this form without breaking
the user-enabling. Or:

o The iText commands to fill the XFA form without causing the error described
below.

Thank you very much in advance for your patience in reading! I know that I'm
pushing the envelope here with XFA, user-rights, etc, but I can't accept that
I've come this far through so many obstacles only to fall short at the finish
line - I'm hoping there's something out there to get me over the final hurdle.
