I know, but I meant that you could do that before step 1
in your workflow, and then load the form into Acrobat to
Reader Enable it. As a test, I took without_xfa.pdf and
I opened it in Acrobat 8. Then I did "Advanced > Enable
Usage Rights in Reader" and... unless I made a mistake
somewhere, I ended up with a Reader Enabled PDF without XFA.

Please try it and let me know if it works for you.
It saves you the manual labor recreating the fields
one by one (which is a pain, I know).

And another reason: the quality of the PDF Rendering in most
of the other viewers is poor compared to Adobe Reader.

That's what I meant in my earlier mail: remove the XFA with iText;
then Reader Enable the resulting 'AcroForm' form with Acrobat.

At Ghent University, we've invited somebody from Adobe to present
the new stuff in Acrobat 9 on August 25. I'm looking forward to it.

Meanwhile, I've made some changes to iText (not committed)
yet, so that:
- the modification date in both the normal and XMP metadata is updated
- the new XMP stream gets the same reference number as the new one
- the catalog isn't appended (because it didn't change)

None of these changes helped; but every time I have a quarter of
an hour free, I look into another difference.
best regards,
Bruno
