I just downloaded pdfrenderer and it pretty much worked out of the box.
If it returns a bunch of awt objects, it shouldn't be hard to get
pixels layer-by-layer and even combine with JAI or your own code.
I'm trying to adapt it to j2me or, better, transcode PDF into
something less taxing on device resources.
