Do you recall anything in the LG tuner datasheet about the acceptable
RF signal level range?  I believe that the FCC requires cable signals
to be between -10 and +10 dBmv.  Of course, individual channels will
vary depending on equalization, etc.  It could be that the tuner
cannot produce a quality picture with signals that are not +10 dBmv or
greater.

So your friend has about a 0 dBmv signal at the entry point.  Let's
assume the amplifier has a +20 dB gain and the 4-way splitter has an
insertion loss of 9 dB.  That puts the nominal signal level around +11
dBmV at each of the 4 pvrs.

So I think two tests are in order for those so equiped: (1) test the
card in the same machine running windows; and (2) test the card in
linux using a signal around +10 dB.
