Two things...

First, for 2.6.x, that should be "options ivtv tuner=50". The way you've 
specified the tuner type is deprecated.

Second, the in-kernel msp3400 works fine with ivtv, as of somewhere in the 
2.6.8 to 2.6.10 range.
