I finally installed mythTV (apparently overcoming MySQL dependency
problems) It produced:

Database error was:
Lost connection to MySQL server during query

You have to have mysql to use mythtv. You can find install docs on the
mythtv.org website. They are very in depth.

I had to install one version and install MySQL-4.1.11-1mdk then go to the Control
Center->services and start mysqld. Entering MySQL at the prompt brought up MySQL.
So that seems to be O.K.

Entering MythTV at the prompt now brought up a slightly different message.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ mythtv
Unable to connect to database!
Driver error was [1/1045]:
QMYSQL3: Unable to connect
Database error was:
Access denied for user 'mythtv'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

It would appear that I need to set a permission but how?

Despite searching sourceforge.net/projects/ivtv and reading the DOCS I could not
find a reference to perl downloads that would provide a solution to:

The names of available offerings on the Mandriva database do not indicate
that they would satisfy the above and the web and ftp sites suggested are
unlikely to help as they point to different versions and/or have the same
names and descriptions shown by the Mandriva Control Center on my machine.
I suspect this needs Mandriva expert. I'll copy this to the Mandriva
newsgroup and hope!
