I had a simular problem with SUSE. I finally decided to do a locate to see if there were duplicate modules. There were. There were two locations '/lib/modules/extra' and '/lib/modules/ivtv'. The extras directory had old files in it. I copied the .ko file from what I built to the extras directory and now my card is auto detected. The bad news is that I still get only static but at least I'm a little further ahead.
