i've already written plugins for mplayer and xine for
dvd playback, however there are serious audio sync
issues. Basically you just need to feed ivtv a PES
stream.

1.) I know next to nothing about audio/video programming. What is a
   PES stream?

2.) Is this what MythTV does with PVR 350 LiveTV? Feeds a PES
   stream to the 350?

2. a.) If not, why is it necessary from Xine, but not from MythTV?

the xine one is actually pretty close, but i just
don't have the time to work on it anymore :<

i've asked several times if anyone wants to take over
the development but haven't gotten any serious takers.

It's more complicated than it sounds though :)

the version i'd written also included navigation
support using the ivtv OSD, which is about the only
thing that was working well :)

MythTV has a working OSD on the 350 without XV too. That's what
sparked my interest.

So again, if anyone wants to take the code and hack on
it, i'll gladly give it to you :)

Yeah, I'd be interested in taking a look at least. I think I'd rather program
my way out of this problem rather than just throw hardware at it. It'll
pay off in the long run as I'll have more CPU to spare for other things.
