I'm not sure I understand this. Myth can stream livetv to disk, then
play it back
on the PVR 350 without any sync issues. The audio comes out of my PVR
350 and is looped into the sound card, then sent to the speakers. What's
the difference between that and what has already been tried? Was the
audio
separate from the video mpeg or something?
One issue is that the audio on DVD is (typically) AC3 encoded and
PVR-350 only understands MP2. So, you can't just feed it directly to
PVR-350 like you do for TV recordings.
Right. That's why I mentioned transcoding the DVD stream first. I'm sure
Xine/Mplayer
at least extract this information anyway before sending it to
alsa/oss/whatever. It might
still be cheaper to transcode this info than to extract it & make
XFree86 the middleman.
My first problem is that I don't know anything about mpeg, so I don't
know how many
different kinds of formats there are. Can someone provide me a link to
that sort of
info?
My second problem is that I don't know exactly what mpeg formats the 350
accepts.
I now know it takes mpeg2 with MP2 audio. Is it more specific than that,
or is that all
I need to know? Can someone clarify for me or tell me where to look?
My third problem is that I don't know how many different formats are
included under
the broad umbrella that is "DVD". I expect to use pre-existing
transcoding code
though, so this is probably less of an issue.
My fourth problem is that I don't know if there are already OSS tools
out there that
I can use to perform a rip+transcode in real time. I can probably answer
this myself
if I can get the above three questions answered definitively.
Then I can do a proof of concept and see how fast it is. After that,
it's just a matter of
slapping a GUI on it and integrating the various pieces into one package
or turning it
into plugins for the various players out there.
