Thanks a lot, the email from Thomas Olsson send on 2005-01-19 21:41 solved the problem... both I was missing the tda9887 and the 2.6 kernel did not honor all settings in modules.conf. Now everything is in /etc/modules and initialized during boot.
Somehow I've missed that email in previous searches. Thanks again
