Good news everyone: I've forward-ported this series to current next.

Everything seems to be working smoothly on the AMD Seattle, and I'm
optimistic to demonstrate a bit of it next week at ELC-E [1]. Howeverm
the Foundation model is untested (feedback is welcome if someone has it
set up!).

The code is pushed into wip/arm64. One piece is missing, though
(insiders should have a clue already)... I will also show this next week. :)
