Actually if you have a capacitor, it must be isolated by the diode, as
shown on Microchip schematic, otherwise Vpp rise from +5V to +13V and
drop from +13V to +5V can be too slow on some programmers.

It's a 2c part.

My circuit is correct. While simpler circuits will mostly work, it's
the "proper" solution,
