Yes, Wisp628 is a good programmer, but it simply does not work the same as PIC Kit 2 which is to microchip specifications: On PIC Kit 2, the VDD pin is an output - to output power to your unpowered PIC On Wisp628, the VDD pin is an input - to input power to your unpowered programmer I understand that the VDD issue is separate from the reset button issue.
