Hi Matt,

The boards I mentioned are pre-assembled, ready to use boards -- that
way, you can focus on software, and have confidence that the hardware
is working fine. In fact, when in doubt, you could re-flash with known-
good-working hex files just to verify your hardware is still OK.

The 3.3v regulator for the ENC chip needs to have ample current
capability - I'd suggest a 300mA regulator, but that is just from
memory. Check the datasheets and errata.

TCP/IP doesn't require large packets - I think the minimum size for IP
is 576 bytes, and TCP can negotiate the packet size during the initial
connection handshake. A typical ethernet packet will be around 1532
bytes, but I've gotten by with less than 1024 bytes on some projects.
Note that IP is lossy, so you could end up 'dropping' some incoming
packets, but that is no big deal, other than throughput will be
reduced.

William

ps: I think Stef did some JAL work with the ENC chip some years ago.
Might be worth a look-see. I've got one of those ENC modules here,
but I never hooked it up since I started using the 18F67J60 board.
