Wouldn't it be possible to regularly use "-no-variable-reuse", and on failure due to memory overflow, try only the failed sample again *with* variable-reuse? A bit of script magic, but will probably compile all it can with little overhead concernig build time. I haven't seen the script yet, it might well be that it's to hard to implement that way.
