Maybe good to know. I changed all sample files (using a script of Rob Hamerling
🙂) standard to Low Voltage Programming (LVP ENABLED) since that seems to become
the default. This will be available in the next bee-packages.

Some older PICs do not support LVP so you still need a Pickit2 or 3 for these
devices.

Note that if you have already been programming your PIC with High Voltage, you
need a PicKit2 of 3 to set it back to Low Voltage Programming since an LVP
programmer (like the Snap) cannot do that.

A virgin PIC with LVP is by default in LVP mode.

Enjoy!

Onderwerp: [jallib] Microchip Snap programmer/debugger discount

Hello all,

This is for your information.

Until the end of March you can purchase the inexpensive Snap
programmer/debugger from Microchip with 50% discount , see:

https://www.microchip.com/Developmenttools/ProductDetails/PG164100

Why purchase this? When testing new device files for new samples I noticed that
I am not able to program a new sample with the PicKit3.

It was not officially confirmed by Microchip but it might be that the PicKit3
will not support newer chips. This may of course not be a problem for you if
you are OK with the current set the PicKit3 can program.

The Snap programmer/debugger is capable of programming almost all MCU's, where
the more expensive Pickit4 can program all.

I do not know that 'almost' means.

Anyway I ordered one to see if I am able to program a new PIC18F47Q43 which I
currently cannot program with my PicKit3.

I will let you know if the Snap programmer solves this problem.

Kind regards,

Rob
