My config only allows relays from the local network, so it ends up in the var/mail/spam directory and never actually get sent out. Its very possible it has nothing to do with the spam and that is just the last thing I see in the logs after it crashes.

I'll try 1.4.1 to see if that changes anything..

Well, that's going to be a joy ... you might try Sun JVM 1.4.1 to see if the
behavior changes. Does this particular spam make it into the spool, or does
it die before then?
