Thanks for the great examples !  But how does one say in japanese:

1) what is there to eat?

2) is there anything to eat?  
(tabemono ga arimasu ka?  though I think tabemono means 'something to
eat' / 'food' instead of 'anything to eat')

The above distinction in japanese is completely lost on me.
