A little clarification. =)

Everquest may have 700,000 registered subscribers worldwide, but they cannot
all play the game at the same time. There are, I think, 25 world servers,
which are all clones of the same world. Each server can support
approximately 2700 players before it crashes. A player on the world server
named "Karana" cannot interact with a player on the world server "Solusek
Ro" in any way.

Each world server is divided up into areas called "zones". Each zone can
support approx. 250 players before it crashes. A player can move their
character from zone to zone within their world servers, but can never
(unless Verant/Sony decides to "split" a server) move a character from one
server to another. If a player wants to play on a different server, they
have to create a new character on that other server. And each player is
allowed to have 8 characters per server.
