Well, the Toshiba 2805-S402 with the GeForce 2 Go chip in it finally
arrived...
It comes with Windows ME installed.... So the first thing I did was to
install Windows 2000 Professional.
Then the problems began.
After spending 3 hours (literally) on the phone with Toshiba support, they
eventually said "Since you changed the software that was shipped with it,
we can't help you."
The problem seems to be the driver for the screen. Although the
installation of the driver "works" in the sense that it gives no errors
during installation, the Display control lists the screen as 600 by 400 and
only 16 colors.
I got a driver off of the Toshiba site and tried that but it did the same
thing, which is nothing....
So I am now looking for a driver that will work under Windows 2000 and the
GeForce2 GO chip. I can't seem to find any.
In the mean time, has anyone tried Java 3D under Windows ME?? I really
don't want to use ME, but I might have to if I can't find a driver. If
Java 3D doesn't work under ME then I just spent $3,000 (of someone else's
money) for a machine that does nothing I want to do....
(also, the drivers for the PCI interface, and the LAN Ethernet, and Base
System something or other also doesn't work under Windows 2000. The
drivers don't seem to be recognized as being installed even after a "clean"
install.)
