Some of us on the Java 3D team work very closely with the OpenGL group
at Sun.  And Sun is active with regards to the OpenGL ARB.  We are aware of
the work that 3dlabs is doing.  I think it is pretty safe to say that
just about every company that makes 3d graphics hardware is doing research
in this area.
