Title: RE: [JAVA3D] Off-topic: Virus proliferation

Yes.  The elkrn (or whatever) virus's continue to hit my machines, even with firewall (which doesn't help with infected emails), and Virus scanning running 24/7.  Some of these damn things actually look for anti-virus software and remove it!~ And on top of that, on NT machines some of them will install as services that will even show up in Services management list.

My own mail server (MS Exchange Server, patched all up, behind firewall, config'd for anti-relay, etc ) has been hit 3 times now with these things.  We actually had to completely scrap a server down to a bare HD and rebuild it after Nimbda had it's way with it.

I get 4X more virus-distributed messages than valid emails.  It's extremely frustrating, and seems to only be getting worse.  And it WILL get worse, until there is a monumental change in how email security and filtering work.

I've had the adware crap too, and the banners that creep all over the desktop.  I think I uninstalled it from add/remove programs, but I could be wrong.

My 2 cents...

Scott

Subject: [JAVA3D] Off-topic: Virus proliferation

The amount of virus laden e-mails hitting my accounts has increased
dramatically over the last month.  I get EXE files and PIF files 1-3 times a
day with subjects like "Here is the IE 6.0 patch you requested" or "Included
is my resume".

I am beginning to feel very besieged sitting here behind my fire wall,
anti-virus software and message filtering software.  And recently "adware"
was insinuated itself into my operating system and I have been unable to
successfully remove it, I have no idea how this managed to get past my
anti-virus software.  And apparently it is all legal and everything.  The
ad-ware companies don't have to remove their software, and they can beam
transmissions of info from your computer back to their servers.

Anyway, I just wanted to vent a little bit and see if anyone feels the same
way I do.

Dave
