Yeah, I know.. i'm working on an interface at the moment for the game to set characters/opponents/res/fullscreen/etc. As you may have guessed, it looks a lot better in fullscreen. I'm running it at 1600x1200 easily with the 4 characters on the screen, i'm also doing soak tests at the moment to see what the number of characters is doing to cause java.lang.outofmemory errors to hit after a few hours of play. something's leaking...
i'm hoping that anyone looking at it in 1600x1200 fullscreen, 32 bit color (and maybe even full 4x4 antialiasing too, if a geforce3+/newer ati is in a fast machine) will see the details that are there to be had. Hopefully i will be inclined to work on a better texture set for my Shmo character (the red and yellow guy at the moment), so you have something to look at when you're playing two player and zooming close to one another. I'm also going to do a nice tiled background to bring the background relative res up to like 1536x1536, which will be nicely drawn too a 1600x1200 background, albeit at a bit different scale. The shotgun bullets are actually very, very detailed, but have a reflection built in so i'll have to remove that if i decide to put lighting in my game.. >From: Marc Palmer <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> >Reply-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >Subject: Re: [JAVA3D] J3D Game Project almost complete/Keyframe 3dsmax... >Date: Fri, 9 Aug 2002 16:04:54 GMT > > > Updated: > > SeekingRocket crashes should be a thing of the past. > > a few misc bugs fixed. > > *3* opponents now! > >Nice Chris, working much better here now. > >However, I'm beginning to wonder... this runs great on my machine, even >with 4 players, and your models and textures seem very detailed yet but >perhaps overly so. i.e. they are so small on screen it could be optimized >a lot more without the visual quality degrading.
