I got myself a 1.8Ghz laptop featuring a GeForce4 Go card half a year
ago. As I purchased at a local discounter, the price was affordable.
Better still, the quality was more than one would expect. Since then,
I've done a lot of 3D development under Java3D and a number of other
environments on the machine and never encountered any problems. I even
played UT2003 on it, no shader support but beside that, a smooth and
visually rocking experience :-)

Bottom line: As long as you purchase a complete package and do not try
to combine this laptop with that very special card, I guess it'll be
alright and you wont run into too much problems.

Betreff: [JAVA3D] [OFF-TOPIC?] 3D Support on the move (laptops)

I'm looking around at buying a laptop with the intention of doing my
hobby development on the sofa :)

I noticed quite alot of you guys seem to be using them and was hoping
for some buying advice.

1) Which is the better mobile card (Nvidia or ATI) ?
2) How do mobile relate in performance to desktop cards ?
3) Can I expect to run J3D comfortably on a laptop ?

Finally, any help is much appreciated, as are recommendations for
particular specs.
