Chances are fewer people would use the API if you had to pay for it than if
you didn't, that wasn't my point.  I was more suggesting that it is a problem
with the fact that it is developed commercially, not it's price.  A project
developed independently and freely by a group of developers will keep running
until interest in the project dwindles.  A project developed commercially by
a company will keep running while it is seen to be a good investment, be that
while there is still interest in it or not.

Not knocking Java3D at all, I like most that I have seen with it.  However,
since I haven't yet invested huge amounts of time or money I think it would
be wise to know that the solution you pick is not only good, but one that
will stay good as time goes by.
