The situation is always that big company or orgs tell
us what is good, like they told us how good Java3D is,
blah, blah... when they developed it. And we,
developers have to follow the trends, then they said,
"oh, this is not good any longer", we then face
choices and don't know which technology will win
finally. How can we be wise enough to always stay good
as time goes by? Maybe just be lucky enough?

Which technology is more likely to help drive the use of Java? Has
Java3D gotten the masses to use Java?

I don't think so, it is still largely used by just a fraction of
people. If we get Java out in the game market then more software will be
developed using Java, and this will help Sun out.

Rather than complaining look for ways to get software that will be on
most desktops written in Java3D.
