Those were different posts, some time later. J3d has hung in the balance for a while, and understandably so- how has it's existence really benefited sun? They are in business to make a profit, rather than to make us developers happy.
My view would be that the guys who run j3d.org are pretty busy on other projects and haven't really had time to update the site in a while. Given that java3d has been effectively on hold for so long, there hasn't been a whole world of news to put there for a while.
