I didn't mean to imply that the term didn't exist previously.  My
point was that back-in-the-day, everyone was talking about application
servers in the J2EE space, then SOA came along and we started
referring to the space as 'middleware'.  The term already existed.   I
was pointing out that we at Oracle now use the term 'middleware' to
encapsulate a large set of technologies that use to be more silo'd
(BI, content, portal, EPM, BAM, etc.).  Many other vendors don't
include some of these technologies in under their 'middleware'
umbrella.
