Well, one purpose would be to remind the Java world how simple
software development can be made.

Despite having done Java development and not VB for the past decade, I
still think that I could go back and develop a standard, desktop,
corporate application in half the time using a ten-year-old copy of
VB6.  Ok, it wouldn't be cross-platform or browser savvy but few
corporate apps need those capabilities.  They just need to display
corporate data to users for whom the data matters, not the delivery
platform.  AWT was a (bad) joke and Swing based UIs are a pig to
develop.  They still look worse than the VB6 equivalent (that can
often be thrown together and working in ten minutes).
