No, I am only telling people a simple fact that holds true since some

Well, from a scientific attitude which I expect in contexts as this, I'd 
say that comparing a figure (that, BTW, you are not giving with 
references) that refers to two systems that cannot be more different 
from a cultural, social, politic and geographic point of view and 
jumping immediately to the most immediate conclusion (more gun deaths -> 
because of more guns) sounds to me very naive. In any case, I fear that 
if you look at the trends in Europe (or at least in parts of Europe), 
you would probably be surprised: people in some regions feel less and 
less secure and tend to own a gun more often that in the past. Clearly 
the root cause here is the incapability of the state to guarantee security.
