Guns don't kill anybody by themselves; people using guns do. Guns can be used by bad people to make evil or by good people to defend themselves and others. In the latest years there have been quite a few mass killing by crazy people in Europe too, where gun ownership laws are generally more restrictive than in the USA. To me this demonstrates that the main problems aren't guns, but crazy (in the sense of ill) people walking around, that is a failure from the authorities that should detect mentally ill people and force them into a hospital.
