VMWare: Here is $320 million
SpringSource: I'm sure we can find some synergies

Really great business plan by the founders of SpringSource. I'm sure
they are all now wealthy people, and it alleviates the need for them
to do that really hard thing, which is make money (day in, day out).

As far as VMWare is concerned, I've seen it mainly as a solution for
virtualizing Windows, and once Hyper-V gets its 3rd time lucky MS
touch, then it'll be a brave shop indeed which turns down a
virtualization solution from MS to run Windows.

At which point, VMWare might just lack a core business/revenue stream.

So, VMWare buying SpringSource is probably about diversification for
VMWare.

But I don't get what value they add to SpringSource (besides a wad of
cash in the pockets of the ppl behind SpringSource) and I can't see
any Java shop taking a closer look at a Spring offering because VMWare
now owns them (unless it was commercial security they were concerned
about).

But I guess we'll all see.

(Time to read up on Guice)
