This economy makes for strange bedfellows.. I couldn't see how JBoss (professional open source JEE rebel ) and RedHat (old guard Linux) were compatible at first blush, either. In fact, at first it felt like the angle was the 'rebel' thing more than the synergistic software..
I think that's the point - there's no common overlap. This is a chance for both sides to expand into markets. That we're so accustomed to thinking of them in their respective roles as they are shows how good they were - what, after all, could they possibly be missing? Taking the example even further (perhaps perilously so): Microsoft provided the platform (Windows) and added services (.NET) Sun provided the platform (Solaris, Sparc, etc) and added services (Java) NeXT provided the platform (Next) and added services (WebObjects) RedHat provided the platform (RH Linux) and added services (JBoss) VMWare provided the platform (any platform, anywhere, in any number) and has added services (Spring) Thanks, Joshua Long http://www.joshlong.com/ On Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 6:55 PM, Eric Newcomer<[email protected]> wrote: > > Well at least VMware will be assured of a supplier for their Osgi > based management console for Vcloud... > > Eric > > > On 8/10/09, kibitzer <[email protected]> wrote: >> >> Must admit, I can't see how these two companies are at all compatible. >> Not from a product offering or a development mindset perspective. >> Very, very odd. >> > >> > > -- > Sent from my mobile device > > > > --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Java Posse" group.
